Days after being expelled from the Samajwadi Party, Chail MLA Pooja Pal launched a scathing attack on party chief Akhilesh Yadav, accusing him of promoting criminal elements within the organisation by “insulting and deserting her midway”.
She said her expulsion was not only a personal issue but also an attempt to silence the concerns of the state’s backward classes, Dalits and economically weaker sections.
In a letter addressed to Akhilesh Yadav, which she also shared on her X account, Pal wrote, “My voice against injustice and betrayal! Expulsion from the party is not just about me, but an attempt to suppress the voice of the backwards, Dalit, and poor people of Uttar Pradesh. I have fought and will continue to fight the battle for justice.”
She added that her explanation would have provided clarity to the SC, ST and OBC communities on whether Akhilesh Yadav is truly a protector of the “Pichhde” (backwards), Dalits and “Alpsankhyak” (minorities) (PDA).
Pal, who joined the Samajwadi Party with the hope of securing justice for the backwards, said her disappointment began when her efforts to seek justice for her husband’s murder during the SP government were ignored.
BSP MLA Raju Pal, her husband, was shot dead in Prayagraj in 2005, just days after their wedding. In February 2023, Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case, was also gunned down in Prayagraj’s Sulem Saray area.

The expelled legislator underlined that it was during the BJP government’s tenure that justice was delivered in the long-pending case.
She also questioned the grounds for her expulsion, reportedly for voting for a BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections. Pal pointed out that Akhilesh Yadav himself voted for a BJP candidate in the Constitutional Club elections in Delhi just days later.
She accused the SP chief of “arrogance” in expelling a widow from a backwards community, stressing that her criticism of him was aimed at highlighting injustice. Pal further revealed that she is being subjected to online trolling and has been receiving life threats.
“My only aim of receiving justice for my husband’s murder has been fulfilled. Now, even if I die, it won’t matter. But if anything happens to me, the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav should be held responsible,” she wrote.
Pal’s remarks have stirred controversy within the political circle in Uttar Pradesh, coming soon after her removal from the Samajwadi Party. The expulsion order, issued by Akhilesh Yadav, accused her of “anti-party activities and serious indiscipline” after she praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “zero tolerance policy”.
The letter read, “You have carried out anti-party activities, and even after being warned, you did not stop these activities, due to which the party has suffered a lot. The work done by you is anti-party and a serious act of indiscipline. Hence, you are expelled from Samajwadi Party with immediate effect.”
