The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti government in Maharashtra announced the long-awaited Maharashtra portfolio allocation on Saturday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has kept the Home Ministry, while NCP leader Ajit Pawar has been assigned the Finance and Planning departments.
Eknath Shinde, the former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader, who had shown interest in the Home department, has been given portfolios like Urban Development, Housing, and Public Works (Public Enterprises).
Devendra Fadnavis holds significant power in the Maharashtra portfolio, retaining responsibilities such as Energy (excluding Renewable Energy), Law and Judiciary, General Administration, and Information & Publicity.
Ajit Pawar, in addition to Finance and Planning, will also oversee the State Excise department.
In the Mahayuti portfolio announcement, several other key leaders have been assigned important departments. Shiv Sena's Uday Samant will handle Industries, BJP's Pankaja Munde gets Environment, and NCP's Manikrao Kokate will manage the Agriculture department.
BJP's Chandrakant Patil will oversee Higher & Technical Education, Ganesh Naik from Shiv Sena will be in charge of Forests, and Dada Bhuse from Shiv Sena gets the School Education department. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule will head the Revenue Department.

Other key appointments include BJP's Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil for Water Resources, NCP's Hasan Mushrif for Medical Education, NCP's Dhananjay Munde for Food and Civil Supplies, BJP's Ashok Uike for Tribal Development, and Ashish Shelar for Information Technology and Culture.
The announcement of the Maharashtra portfolio allocation came after Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the finalization of the list, which was released shortly after his statement.
Fadnavis, along with his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, were sworn in on December 5, and 39 ministers were inducted ahead of the Winter Session starting December 15.
The Mahayuti, which consists of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, secured a resounding victory in the November 20 assembly elections, winning 230 out of 288 seats.
