The mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson, a 26-year-old Air India cabin crew member who lost her life in the Ahmedabad plane crash, were received by her family at Dimapur airport on Thursday. Singson was a native of Kangpokpi district in Manipur and a member of the Kuki community.
Her remains were flown from Ahmedabad to Dimapur in an IndiGo flight. Members of the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Sadar Hills, were present at the airport to pay their respects. Earlier in the day, family members and community leaders had travelled from Kangpokpi to Dimapur in a convoy of around 10 vehicles to receive her remains, a relative of Singson said.
Singson originally hailed from Old Lambulane colony in Imphal, but had relocated with her family to Kangpokpi district following the outbreak of ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur in 2023.
Another cabin crew member from Manipur, Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma, who belonged to the Meitei community, also perished in the crash. However, her mortal remains are yet to arrive.
The tragic loss of two young women from Manipur in the crash has cast a pall of grief across the state with tributes pouring in from community leaders, organisations and residents alike.
