The family of 1965 war hero Captain Chander Narayan Singh voluntarily returned the martyr’s Maha Vir Chakra (MVC). The braveheart’s brother, Sukhdev Singh, handed over the MVC and other medals of his brother to the regimental centre of the Indian Army’s Garhwal Rifles in Dharamshala.
August 5 marked 60 years since Captain Narayan Singh’s sacrifice for the nation. In 1965, Captain CN Singh of the Garhwal Rifles led a bold attack in the Poonch Sector during the Indo-Pak War. He led the troops in successfully taking the enemy post in spite of his serious injuries. He received the Maha Vir Chakra (Posthumous) in recognition of his outstanding leadership, bravery, and valour.
On behalf of the Garhwal Rifles, Lieutenant General D S Rana, CINCAN, and the Colonel of Garhwal Rifles & Garhwal Scouts at Dharamshala received MVC and medals, which will be further displayed in the Regimental Centre to motivate future generations.
Praising the martyr in his address and his family for presenting the medals, Lt Gen Rana called Capt. C N Singh - a real example of bravery, courage, and leadership.
"His legend will continue to inspire generations of Indian youth and future soldiers. The medals will be displayed at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre Museum, Lansdowne, Uttarakhand. This will serve as a source of inspiration and will keep the legacy of Capt CN Singh alive in the heart of the Indian Army and the Nation for posterity," he stated.
