The iconic Red Fort complex has been temporarily closed for visitors due to security concerns, announced a senior Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) official on Tuesday. The closure comes amidst heightened security measures in central Delhi in anticipation of the farmers' march.
The historic Mughal-era monument, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Old Delhi, was sealed abruptly late Monday night "due to security reasons," the official confirmed.
Security measures have been significantly bolstered in the area since late last night.
"The Red Fort complex has been closed for visitors," the official informed.
When questioned about the reopening of the 17th-century monument, the senior official stated that it would be contingent upon the decision of security agencies.
Security measures in Delhi have been intensified, with multi-layer barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails, and container walls erected at border points.
