The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) announced on Sunday that farmers from Greater Noida, who are currently imprisoned, have started a hunger strike.
According to SKM, these farmers, who are in the District Jail of Gautam Buddha Nagar, are protesting to defend their rights and demands.
The farmers have long-standing issues, including the demand for a new law that ensures 10% land allotment for them. SKM also stated that the farmers were detained by the authorities while they were peacefully protesting.
Additionally, the farmers are seeking action on the Leaseback (Adadi) settlement issue and the enforcement of the 2013 Land Acquisition law.
The SKM further explained that the farmers in jail have refused to eat as part of their hunger strike, which is peaceful but could endanger their health.
SKM has called on the district administration, as well as the state and central governments, to prioritize listening to the farmers' demands.
