Goa Shipyard launches fifth FPV for Coast Guard.

‘Achal’, the fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being constructed by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), was ceremoniously launched on 16 June 2025 in Goa.

The vessel was launched by Smt. Kavita Harbola in the presence of Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola, Commander of the Coast Guard's Western Seaboard.

Designed and built under dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping, the 52-metre vessel features over 60 per cent indigenous content.

With a displacement of 320 tonnes and equipped with a controllable pitch propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system, the patrol boat can attain a top speed of 27 knots.

The FPV is primarily tasked with protection, monitoring, control and surveillance operations, aimed at securing offshore assets and island territories.

The launch of ‘Achal’ marks another step forward in the enduring collaboration between the Indian Coast Guard and GSL, further advancing the government’s vision of Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing.

Constructed at an overall cost of ₹473 crore, the FPV project has significantly benefited local industries, providing employment opportunities and supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in various production activities both within the shipyard and in partner factories.

The launch event was also attended by GSL Chairman and Managing Director Shri Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, alongside senior officials from the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and other stakeholders involved in the project.
