Former MLA Anant Singh's supporters accused in Mokama firing.

A firing incident involving two groups occurred in Nauranga village, Mokama, under the Pachmala Police Station area on Wednesday evening. Police reports suggest that one of the groups involved is affiliated with former Mokama MLA Anant Singh.

Patna Rural SP Vikram Sihag confirmed receiving information about the clash. According to him, police immediately reached the site after reports of gunfire.

The groups had fled the scene before the police arrived. No injuries were reported, and a forensic team is conducting an investigation.

The initial probe revealed that the confrontation stemmed from a dispute over locking a house in a nearby village. Villagers claimed that around fifteen rounds were fired, though the police recovered only three shell casings from the site.

A case has been registered, and further inquiries are ongoing.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rakesh Kumar added that efforts are underway to identify the individuals involved. Preliminary findings suggest that the former MLA Anant Singh and his supporters may have been present during the incident.

Anant Singh, often referred to as ‘Chhote Sarkar,’ is a controversial figure in Bihar politics. He won the 2020 assembly elections on an RJD ticket but is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence in an arms case.

His wife, Neelam Devi, now represents the Mokama constituency, having secured victory on the same party ticket.

Singh’s legal troubles date back to 2019 when an AK-47 rifle was found at his residence, leading to his conviction. Despite his imprisonment, his influence in the region remains significant, as demonstrated by the latest incident.
