Rescue teams have completed the initial round of operations at the firecrackers factory blast site in Harda, Madhya Pradesh, stated a senior official on Wednesday.
Despite the high temperatures from the blaze, efforts to clear debris were successful. The death toll stands at 11, with over 200 injured.
Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma declared the first phase of the rescue operation complete, highlighting the challenging conditions due to the intense fire.
The factory, located on the outskirts of Harda, saw debris removal using earthmovers while water cannons helped cool the area.
"We've checked the entire debris for safety. Rumors of more casualties are unfounded," clarified Sharma. However, over 100 injured individuals are still receiving treatment across various hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.
Sub-Divisional Officer BS Maurya provided details on the injured, indicating that 73 were admitted to the local hospital, including workers and residents nearby.
Additionally, 38 were referred to other medical facilities, while 95 were discharged. Two persons remain missing.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate KC Parte confirmed the extinguishing of fire pockets beneath the rubble. Meanwhile, two factory owners face charges of culpable homicide, with a third individual detained for questioning.
The explosion's cause remains under investigation, with witnesses recalling its impact up to 25 kilometers away. The state government has formed a committee to probe the incident, led by Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
