Ranchi Among Worst Hit in Jharkhand Monsoon Deluge.

Intense monsoon conditions across Jharkhand have prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a flash flood warning for 12 of the state’s 24 districts.

This advisory, valid until 5:30 PM on Monday, follows sustained heavy rainfall that began on Sunday, 6 July.

The rainfall has been attributed to a cyclonic circulation and the development of a trough, which has brought an unusual volume of moisture to the region.

According to the IMD’s latest report, the districts under the flood warning include Garhwa, Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, Ranchi, Bokaro, Seraikela, and both East and West Singhbhum.

These areas are currently experiencing substantial rainfall, significantly altering local weather patterns and increasing the risk of flash floods in several locations.

Jharkhand has recorded a marked rise in rainfall this monsoon season, with figures indicating a 69% surplus compared to normal levels between 1 June and 6 July.

During this period, the state received 417.2 mm of rainfall, far exceeding the seasonal average of 246.2 mm. Latehar has been the worst affected district, registering a 157% surplus, closely followed by Ranchi, which has seen a 156% increase.

However, not all parts of the state have shared equally in the monsoon rains. Some northeastern districts, such as Deoghar and Godda, are still experiencing dry conditions, with rainfall deficits of 35% and 28% respectively.

Deputy Director of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand, stated that light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue throughout Monday, while heavier showers are likely in the western and southern parts of the state.
