Forces acted like surgeons in Operation Sindoor: Rajnath

The Defence Minister also addressed Pakistan’s response to India’s strikes.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attend the Silver Jubilee celebration of Dr KNS Memorial Hospital (Mayo Medical Center), in Lucknow, Tuesday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the Indian armed forces operated with the precision of skilled surgeons during Operation Sindoor, targeting the roots of terrorism across the border with accuracy and discipline.

Speaking at an event marking the 25th anniversary of the KN Memorial Hospital, Singh drew a powerful analogy between the roles of soldiers and doctors. "Just like expert surgeons who use their instruments only where the disease lies, our forces carried out Operation Sindoor with pinpoint accuracy — striking at the root of terrorism without collateral damage," he said.

This marked Singh’s first public address since the Indian military's cross-border strikes on May 7, which targeted multiple terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Highlighting the similarities between the armed forces and medical professionals, Singh said, “Both soldiers and doctors undergo rigorous training, operate in high-stress environments, and are required to take swift and critical decisions during emergencies. Just as doctors proved their commitment during the COVID-19 crisis, our armed forces demonstrated the same during Operation Sindoor.”

The Defence Minister also addressed Pakistan’s response to India’s strikes. “As always, Pakistan did not concede defeat easily. They attempted retaliatory strikes, targeting civilians and even religious places — temples, gurdwaras, and churches. But our armed forces responded with strength and clarity,” Singh asserted.

He underlined that India’s counterattacks were meticulously planned to ensure that only terrorist camps were hit and that civilian lives and infrastructure remained untouched. “While punishing the perpetrators of terror, our soldiers ensured that innocent lives were safeguarded,” he said.

Addressing the audience in his parliamentary constituency of Lucknow, Singh said he was unsure if he could attend the event due to the escalating situation at the time of the invitation. “But with Operation Sindoor having been concluded successfully, I am here not only to participate but also to thank our armed forces and salute the resilience of the people.”

Singh concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to eliminating terrorism. “Doctors treat the ill within our borders. But we, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are committed to curing the disease of terrorism that festers beyond our borders. The success of Operation Sindoor is evidence of that resolve,” he said.
