Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Zakir Ganai has been neutralised by the security forces in an encounter with the terrorists on Wednesday, in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district. On the fifth day of a massive anti-terror operation, security forces recovered the body of terrorist Zakir Ganai on July 8.
Ganai was one of two terrorists initially tracked by surveillance cameras in a dense orchard when the operation began on July 3.
The security forces are now focused on finding the other LeT terrorist named Latif.
A joint team of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF has established a tight cordon around the area, with the Army’s specialised counter-insurgency unit, Victor Force, sealing all potential escape routes through the dense orchard.
Officials reported an earlier exchange of gunfire as security forces closed in on the trapped terrorists. To prevent any escape under the cover of darkness, the entire area has been lit up.
