A four-hour Shanti Homam Panchagavya Prokshana (ritualistic sanitisation) is currently taking place at the Tirumala temple, aimed at addressing alleged desecrations during the previous YSRCP government.
The ritual commenced at 6 am and will continue until 10 am, with the intention of purifying the temple and restoring the sanctity of the offerings, particularly the famous Tirupati laddus.
According to a source from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), this ceremony seeks to appease Lord Venkateswara Swamy in light of claims that animal fats were improperly mixed into the preparation of the sacred laddus.
TTD executive officer J Shyamala Rao stated that the rituals aim to counteract the alleged negative effects on the well-being of devotees.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been vocal in his criticism of the previous regime, asserting that changes made to ghee procurement procedures warranted a special investigation team to probe potential irregularities.
He also condemned the alleged politicisation of TTD board appointments.
