Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that the Union Cabinet's approval of four major railway projects, with a total cost of over Rs 11,000 crore, will significantly boost the government's efforts to develop next-generation infrastructure. He stated on X that these projects will benefit the people of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, officially approved the four multi-tracking railway projects, which are valued at approximately Rs 11,169 crore. The government confirmed that these projects, covering 13 districts across the six aforementioned states, will extend the Indian Railways network by about 574 km. The projects are aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which aims to improve multi-modal connectivity and logistics.

The four approved projects are:

  • Itarsi–Nagpur fourth line
  • Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar)–Parbhani doubling
  • Aluabari Road–New Jalpaiguri third and fourth line
  • Dangoaposi–Jaroli third and fourth line

In addition to the railway projects, the Cabinet also approved an increased budgetary outlay for the flagship Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). The scheme's budget was raised by Rs 1,920 crore to a new total of Rs 6,520 crore to strengthen the food processing sector.

This enhanced funding, to be provided during the current fiscal year, will be utilised to establish 50 multi-product food irradiation units and 100 food testing labs. Prime Minister Modi stated that this move will help the food processing sector and, consequently, increase the income of farmers.
