Foxconn Eyes 300 Acres for Noida Plant Expansion.

Apple’s leading global supplier, Foxconn, is reportedly exploring plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, marking what could become the company’s first major footprint in North India.

According to a report by media, the Taiwanese electronics giant is in early discussions with the government over a 300-acre plot situated along the Yamuna Expressway.

If the proposal goes ahead, the facility could surpass Foxconn’s upcoming plant in Bengaluru in terms of scale. Industry experts believe this move reflects Foxconn’s ongoing strategy to diversify and expand its operations across India amid shifting global trade dynamics and a push for resilient supply chains.

Greater Noida is fast emerging as a prominent electronics manufacturing hub, similar to Chennai. It boasts robust infrastructure, strategic expressway connectivity, and proximity to the upcoming Jewar airport.

These advantages, coupled with a maturing supplier ecosystem, make the region an attractive destination for global manufacturers.

The land under consideration falls within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) zone — the same area where the HCL-Foxconn joint venture has secured 50 acres for an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility, currently awaiting final government approvals.

While details on the specific products to be manufactured in Greater Noida remain undisclosed, analysts suggest the project is part of Foxconn’s broader India play.

The company already runs facilities in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana. Recently, it closed its operations in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, likely as part of its realignment strategy.

This proposed expansion comes at a time of increasing global trade tensions and tariff shifts. The United States recently introduced tariffs ranging from 10 to 50 per cent on imports, with China facing the brunt of a 145 per cent duty.

India, too, was impacted by a proposed 26 per cent tariff on its exports, although a temporary 90-day pause has provided some breathing space for Indian exporters.

Meanwhile, Apple continues to deepen its manufacturing ties with India. It was reported that the tech giant is now producing iPhones worth around $22 billion in the country.

Approximately 20 per cent of global iPhone production is estimated to come from India. In the last financial year, which ended on 31 March 2025, India exported iPhones worth ₹1.5 trillion (about $17.4 billion).
