An official told reporters that a joint team of the security forces and police launched a joint search operation following credible inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

Earlier on Saturday, the militants and security forces engaged in a fierce encounter in the Keshwan forest of Kishtwar district. The security forces battled for four hours with the militants in the dense forests.

During the action, one of the para-elite forces, JCO Rakesh Kumar, was killed, while the three other soldiers suffered bullet injuries.

They were tracking the group of militants suspected in the killing of two village defence guards (VDG) on Thursday, two days before the contact was established with the militants.

J&K is witnessing a surge in terror-related attacks. Recently, several people have lost their lives, along with several security forces personnel who were killed in targeted killings and ambushes laid by the militants.

Apart from the security militants, on November 3, they hurled a grenade in a busy Sunday market in the Near Lal Chowk area of the Srinagar district, injuring 12 people.

One of the victims lost her battle and died as a result of the serious injuries on Tuesday, November 12.

The administration has directed security forces to tackle the ongoing terror threat and ensure a spurt in terror attacks does not recur.

Although security forces are constantly battling the militants in counter-insurgency operations on both sides of the Pir Panjal region.

The threat of terror remains cause for concern as forces are fighting what Amit Shah termed “faceless and borderless terrorism," often called terrorism 3.0.
