A horrific incident was reported in New Ashok Nagar, which has left the residents of East Delhi shocked, where a man accidentally shot himself in the chest while his friend filmed the encounter. The video, which is now widely available, shows the last moments of the victim, who has been identified by the police as Pawan, in what seems to have been a stunt gone wrong.
In the video, Pawan is seen handling a pistol while his friend provides instructions on how to load the magazine, at one point saying, “Click the button, it will go inside.” After successfully cocking the weapon, Pawan — who appeared in high spirits and even smiled at the camera — positioned the muzzle against the left side of his chest. Despite his friend’s audible warning, “Chala mat dena, bhai” (Don’t fire it, brother), a shot was discharged almost instantly.
The person behind the camera could also be heard screaming in shock as Pawan collapsed. The video ended in chaos. Pawan was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but eventually succumbed to the catastrophic wound.
According to local police, the firearm involved was a licensed weapon belonging to the friend who was recording the video. The current focus of the investigations is the rationale for the use of a loaded gun for the intended social media clip and the presence of any criminal negligence. For now, the case is a tragic reminder of the lethal consequences of the use of guns as playthings for the purpose of producing social media clips.
