Patna’s Danapur reels under severe flooding and waterlogging.

Heavy rainfall has caused the Ganga and Sone rivers to overflow, flooding residential areas and submerging roads in the Danapur area of Patna, Bihar. The rising waters have brought daily life to a standstill, with severe waterlogging preventing movement in the affected neighbourhoods.

The Danapur administration is closely monitoring the situation while carrying out relief and rescue operations. Subdivision Officer Divya Shakti told ANI that boats had been arranged to evacuate residents from inundated homes.

“We are monitoring the rising water level, and we have prepared the basic facilities in all the relief centres. Boats have been arranged for people who wish to leave their homes,” Divya Shakti said.

“Gandhi Park in Maner has been marked for cattle, and fodder is also being provided. There is no report yet of water entering the villages. We are in contact with the local public representatives of Danapur,” she added.

In neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, parts of Varanasi have also flooded due to the rising level of the Ganga. Residents reported that drain water had entered their localities, raising concerns about diseases such as dengue.

“This is drain water, not water from the River Ganga. This causes dengue. We face a lot of difficulties. First, transportation was shut down, and then several diseases followed. We want these issues resolved as soon as possible,” said resident Mandakini Prakash.

Another resident, Surender Mishra, noted the disruption to daily life. “Students’ studies have been affected. Due to the waterlogging, no one can go anywhere, and food is not being prepared as vegetable vendors are not coming. After three to four years, it has flooded in this region,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district, rescue and clearance operations are underway after a cloudburst triggered flash floods and landslides, blocking several stretches of the Uttarkashi–Harsil road.

Heavy machinery, including JCBs, has been deployed to clear debris and restore connectivity, while a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been sent to the site.

Officials said the road at Bhatwadi on the Uttarkashi–Harsil route was completely washed out, with the route towards Harsil remaining blocked overnight. Dharali, the location where the cloudburst caused major damage, is around 50 kilometres from the site.

More than 130 people have been rescued so far, according to Uttarakhand government officials.
