A Delhi court on Saturday extended gangster Anmol Bishnoi’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody by another seven days, until December 5.

Special Judge Prashant Sharma ordered the extension during the hearing conducted at the NIA headquarters amid high security.

Deported from the US on November 18, Anmol, brother and aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was earlier sent to 11 days of NIA custody on November 19.

He is wanted in connection with the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique, for firing at actor Salman Khan’s residence in April 2024, and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, among other crimes.

Absconding since 2022, Anmol is the 19th accused to be arrested for his involvement in the terror-gangster syndicate led by his jailed brother Lawrence. He was detained in the US in November last year.

Another gangster arrested

A gangster deported from Bangkok was arrested in Delhi, said police on Saturday.

The accused, Harsimran alias Badal alias Simran, 38, a resident of East Shalimar Bagh, was deported from Bangkok to Delhi on November 26 following coordinated efforts between Indian central agencies and Thai authorities, they said.

Investigators said Harsimran had fled India after procuring a passport under the fictitious identity of Rajesh Singh from Gorakhpur and flew to Bangkok in January this year with the help of Europe-based gangster Goldy Dhillon.

He then travelled to Dubai and attempted to reach the US or Europe through Azerbaijan and later the Belarus-Latvia-Poland route with the help of human traffickers and associates of Dhillon.

He returned to Bangkok for a visa extension, but was detained on inputs by Indian agencies. His passport obtained under the forged identity was also revoked by the Ministry of External Affairs, further facilitating his deportation, said a senior police officer.

Police said Harsimran has been arrested in an FIR registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.

Starting out as a wrestler in Delhi and Maharashtra, police said Harsimran got involved in crime after coming in contact with gangsters operating in Burari, Sagarpur and northwest Delhi.

He later aligned with members of Dhillon’s gang and allegedly planned to run international operations from the US and Europe.
Named in 23 cases, including extortion, murder, attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act, he listed as a ‘bad character’ of Shalimar Bagh police station and was also a convicted offender in two cases, the officer said.

After fleeing India, Harsimran had tracked a key witness in a case against him and threatened him to turn hostile, besides demanding Rs. 50 lakh from him.

Based on this, a fresh FIR was registered against the gangster at Mukherjee Nagar police station earlier this year, the officer said.

Police said the arrest of another accused, Mahender Singh, in a 2010 murder case also helped them track Harsimran since Singh had revealed during interrogation that the arms and ammunition seized from him were sourced from Harsimran.

A ‘Lookout Circular’ was issued, and central agencies worked jointly with the Delhi Police to trace him.

Harsimran is currently being interrogated, police said.
