US and Indian officials convened in New Delhi on September 16 to discuss opportunities to expand collaboration during the eighth US-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue.
The interaction comes ahead of the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.
Donald Lu, the Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and Jedidiah P. Royal, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, co-chaired the Dialogue for the United States with Nagaraj Naidu, the Joint Secretary for the Americas at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, and Vishwesh Negi, the Joint Secretary for International Cooperation at the Indian Ministry of Defence.
During the 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue, both countries discussed mutual priorities, such as defence cooperation, collaboration in space and civil aviation, clean energy cooperation, and coordination in industrial and logistics.
The officials engaged in conversations covering a wide range of topics, including issues in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world. This includes expressing their support for establishing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as advocating for a ceasefire and providing humanitarian aid in Gaza.
Assistant Secretary Lu and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Royal reaffirmed the United States’ dedication to strengthening existing partnerships and expanding connections between people.
The Intersessional today laid the groundwork for the next 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, a key platform through which the United States and India continue to advance their Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
