Gangster Sunil Yadav, a drug smuggler linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, was shot and killed in Stockton, California, on Monday. The Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara gangs both claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Yadav, a resident of Fazilka in Punjab, had fled India two years ago using a fake passport under the name of Rahul. According to a Facebook post from the Godara and Brar gangs, Yadav was killed because he was involved in the death of Ankit Bhadu, who was killed in an encounter with the Punjab Police.
Yadav was a major figure in the drug trade and worked internationally, first in Dubai and later in the US. The Rajasthan Police had earlier arrested one of Yadav's associates in Dubai, and a red corner notice had recently been issued against him.
Using the fake passport, Yadav escaped to Dubai and then moved to the US. The Godara and Brar gangs accused Yadav and his associates of corrupting the youth of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan with drugs and working with the police to sell narcotics.
The gangs claimed Yadav fled to the US with the help of the police, fearing for his life after Bhadu’s encounter death in 2019. The gangs also warned that they would target their enemies wherever they are in the world.
The post further stated that after reaching the US, Yadav began spying on the gangs, sharing information with the police about their activities and trying to harm the groups.
