The Central government has granted approval for the establishment of three semiconductor units in Gujarat and Assam, signaling a substantial investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
Following the clearance by the Union Cabinet, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the construction of all three units is slated to commence within the next 100 days.
One of the major projects entails Tata Electronics Private Limited collaborating with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC) from Taiwan to establish a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
This venture is expected to draw an investment of Rs 91,000 crore.
Furthermore, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd will embark on setting up a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam, with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.
Another noteworthy initiative involves CG Power joining forces with Renesas Electronics Corporation, Japan, and Stars Microelectronics, Thailand, to establish a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat.
This project is estimated to attract an investment of Rs 7,600 crore.
Telecom Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the strategic significance of these ventures, emphasizing their potential to bolster India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
