In a significant announcement during the presentation of the interim budget for 2024-25, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed the government's ambitious initiatives to implement three major economic railway corridor programs and convert 40,000 regular railway bogies to Vande Bharat standards.

 

Sitharaman emphasised the pivotal role these corridors would play in decongesting high-traffic railway routes and enhancing the efficiency of passenger train operations. 

 

The proposed economic corridor programs encompass energy, mineral, and cement corridors, port connectivity corridors, and high-traffic density corridors, all falling under the PM Gati Shakti initiative for multi-modal connectivity.

 

Highlighting the multifaceted benefits, the Finance Minister underscored that these railway corridors would not only improve logistics efficiency but also contribute to cost reduction. 

 

The anticipated decongestion of high-traffic corridors is expected to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of passenger trains, ensuring a safer and swifter travel experience.

 

The Finance Minister highlighted these initiatives as integral components alongside dedicated freight corridors, collectively envisioned to propel GDP growth and alleviate logistic costs. 

 

Additionally, a substantial focus was placed on passenger safety and comfort as Sitharaman announced the conversion of 40,000 regular rail bogies to Vande Bharat standards.

 

This comprehensive approach aligns with the government's commitment to modernising railway infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and prioritising safety and convenience for passengers across the nation.
