The Centre is set to intensify its outreach to Gen Z and Gen Alpha through a proposed “One Day, One University” campaign under which Union ministers will visit educational institutions and interact directly with students.
The initiative is aimed at creating a more direct, two-way engagement with young people, with ministers expected to seek students’ views on issues related to education, curriculum and higher education.
The ministers will also use the interactions to explain various initiatives and schemes of the central government aimed at young people. The campaign is expected to provide the government with a platform to better understand the aspirations and concerns of younger Indians.
According to government sources, a broader plan is being prepared to systematically engage with both Gen Z and Gen Alpha. The outreach is expected to extend beyond universities to colleges and government schools.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed Union ministers to expand their engagement with educational institutions, including visits to government schools. During such visits, ministers have been asked to focus on the quality of education as well as the quality of food served under the Mid-Day Meal scheme.

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya have been tasked with coordinating the initiative across ministries.
The campaign comes as the government seeks to move beyond conventional communication channels and establish more direct interaction with younger sections of the population. University visits are expected to allow ministers to hear students’ concerns firsthand while also communicating government policies and programmes.
The proposed outreach will cover a wide range of institutions and is intended to create regular engagement rather than one-off interactions. Students are expected to have an opportunity to raise issues concerning education and other areas affecting their academic and professional prospects.
The focus on Gen Z and Gen Alpha reflects an effort to engage younger Indians through platforms and formats that encourage direct participation and dialogue. The government’s plan also places emphasis on understanding the changing expectations of students while communicating its youth-focused initiatives.
