The government will conduct around 1,000 outreach programmes across India over the next 20 days to educate industries and state authorities about the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed on July 24.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the pact and helping stakeholders maximise its benefits.
Officials said the exercise will include stakeholder meetings, workshops, awareness drives and feedback sessions.
“There is a plan to hold sector-wise outreach programmes. Teams will also visit different states to inform them about the benefits of this trade agreement,” an official said.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to meet representatives from the leather and textiles sectors on Monday to discuss the trade pact.
“We will meet every sector. We are sensitising sectors and will do sectoral meetings and with all states,” the official added, outlining the groundwork being laid for the agreement’s implementation.
The agreement will come into force once the UK ratifies it, a process expected to take up to a year.
Once operational, the pact will enable 99% of Indian exports to enter the UK duty-free.
