Gujarat is currently enjoying a brief break from the relentless rains that have battered the state over the past week. According to the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar, the rainfall in the last 24 hours has been minimal, averaging just 1.36 mm.
During this brief pause, the Mundra taluka in the Kutch region received the highest rainfall, measuring nearly one inch. Meanwhile, 68 talukas across Gujarat recorded less than an inch of rain, and no rainfall was noted between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. This lull in heavy showers provides some much-needed relief to the state.
As of August 31, Gujarat's cumulative average rainfall for the monsoon season stands at 111 percent of the average level. The Kutch zone is leading with a notable 179 percent of its seasonal average, followed by Saurashtra with 124 percent and South Gujarat with 111 percent. East-Central Gujarat has recorded over 105 percent of the average, while North Gujarat is slightly behind, with 88 percent of its seasonal average.
This temporary respite allows officials to assess the impact of the recent weather and prepare for future conditions as the monsoon season continues. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued new alerts for the coming days.
The IMD forecast includes light to moderate rainfall across most of Gujarat, but several districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall until September 6. An orange alert has been issued for Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch, predicting heavy to very heavy rains.
Junagadh, Rajkot, Morbi, Gir Somnath, and Diu are under a yellow warning due to anticipated heavy rains, while other areas are expected to see light to moderate showers.
Today’s forecast indicates light to moderate rain and thundershowers across most districts in Gujarat. For September, the IMD expects continued light to moderate rain in most areas, with Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli under a yellow alert for heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Vadodara and Chhota Udepur for September 2, with heavy to very heavy rains expected. A yellow warning is in place for Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Bharuch, Narmada, and Bhavnagar.
On September 3, the orange alert will remain in effect for Narmada and Bharuch, with a yellow warning extending to Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.
