Out of them, a major step enhancing the livability of construction labourers in Gujarat was announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who has initiated the construction of temporary accommodations under the Shramik Basera Yojana at a faster pace.
The program, which started in July of 2024, is going smoothly with the aim of constructing more standard living accommodation to the working class in the strategic cities across the state.
An announcement that was recently made that 17 strategic stations which have been set of for putting up of these housing facilities is a significant achievement in improving welfare of this state’s workforce.
Shramik Basera Yojana for providing low cost and neat rentable houses for the construction labour and their families who are members in the registered societies.
The scheme is intended to help people have decent accommodation close to their working places so as to reduce risks associated with travel. The housing units will be constructed with reasonable proximity, in most cases, one kilometre, to the construction sites so that workers’ get to their work stations easily.
Amenities of the new units include; provision of clean water, electricity, kitchens and streetlights, fans, security, and healthcare unit. In addition, special consideration has provided to a child of any worker who is below six years of age and to whose the accommodation will be provided free of charge.
That is the primary reason for coming up with such an initiative; to provide construction workers with a decent standards of living. Once fully developed, the Shramik Basera will accommodate over 15,000 workers and raise standards of living in the premises substantially.
The initiative is part of a greater working-unemployment scheme that the Gujarat government has set out to implement for construction and other unorganised sector employees.
Just recently, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai Patel has commenced the construction work of 17 sites in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Vadodara. These sites will accommodate pre fabricated houses, they hope that these houses will have all the amenities required for human occupancy.
The accommodation will be provided to the employers at a throw away price of Rs: 5 per single day thus making it affordable to the workers.
The prefabricated units have been planned to ensure that they provide the most basic requirements of the workers but at the same time enable them live conveniently close to their working stations.
The state government has opened a web first window to deliver the benefits of the Shramik Basera Yojana in a transparent & hassle free manner. This platform will ease the process of determination of the workers eligible for the scheme enabling equal easy access to the housing available.
The specific conclusion addressed a number of main issues connected with the improvement of the social policies and the planned portal will help establish systematic allotment and facilitate the procedure of applying for the housing facilities for workers.
Besides having adopted housing policies for the construction workers, Gujarat government has not remained idle in extending welfare of the construction workers in other ways too.
The elite programme is the Bhojan Annapurna Kendra which provides food to the workers at a lower cost. It for Rs 5, the workers can get proper food at the 291 centre opened for this purpose across the state.
This initiative has provided food to more than 32,000 workers daily until now, and this noble cause has fed over 2,96, 35 meals.
