In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term, the number of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Gujarat inducted into the cabinet has decreased to six from seven in the previous term.
Amit Shah, Mansukh Mandaviya, and S Jaishankar were sworn in as cabinet ministers for the second consecutive time on Sunday. The new entrants from Gujarat include state BJP chief and Navsari MP CR Paatil, party president and Rajya Sabha member JP Nadda, and Bhavnagar MP Nimuben Bambhaniya.
Amit Shah and Mansukh Mandaviya continue to represent Gujarat in the Lok Sabha, while S Jaishankar remains a Rajya Sabha member from the state.
Notably absent from the new cabinet lineup is Rajkot MP Parshottam Rupala. Rupala, who was embroiled in controversy over a remark that angered the Khastriya/Rajput community during the Lok Sabha campaign, has been dropped this term.
A three-term Rajya Sabha member, Rupala served as the Union Minister of State for agriculture, farmers welfare, and panchayati raj from 2016 to 2021, and as the Union minister of fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying from July 2021.
Another MP not included this time is Devusinh Chauhan from Kheda, who previously served as the Union Minister of State for communication. Additionally, Mahendra Munjpara, who served as the Minister of State for women and child development in the last government, was not given a ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Darshana Jardosh, who was the Minister of State for railways and textiles in Modi's second term, chose not to contest in the 2024 elections.
