The recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir were “sad” and “unfortunate,” National Conference  president Dr Farooq Abdullah said on Monday, adding that only a few individuals in India and Pakistan did not desire peace.

In an interview to a news channel Abdullah referred to the recent terror attacks in Jammu and added that the Indian government will not engage in discussions with Pakistan until terrorism is eradicated, regardless of how many people want it.

He said, “The government of India will not be ready to have talks with Pakistan; it’s not ready until terrorism ends; no matter how much we shout, they won’t be ready.”

Jammu region has seen a spike in terror incidents, including an attack on an army convoy in Kathua and encounters in Doda and Udhampur. In one incident, terrorists attacked a Village Development Committee (VDC) member in Gunda village, Rajouri, during an ongoing encounter with security personnel, the White Knight Corps said.

The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister also slammed the Uttar Pradesh government’s recent mandate for eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names. He alleged it was an attempt to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims.

“They have done wrong. The yatra used to take place earlier too peacefully. What are they doing? I have never seen such an order.

“They (the BJP) want to create differences between Hindus and Muslims. They are not going to succeed in all this, and in these elections, people have taught them a lesson.

“They were defeated in those seats where they were not expecting to lose elections. They lost in Ayodhya, where they did Pran Pratishtha at Ram Temple. They lost in Uttarakhand (Badrinath polls).”
