The Haryana government has allocated key portfolios following the swearing-in of the new state government, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini retaining critical departments, including home and finance. This decision was made three days after the new cabinet's formation, and it highlights Saini's significant role in shaping the state's administration.
Saini, who leads the state's government, will oversee a total of 12 portfolios. Along with home and finance, he will be in charge of planning, excise and taxation, town and country planning and urban estates, and information.
Additionally, he will handle public relations, language and culture, criminal investigation, law and legislative affairs, and housing for all departments. These assignments underscore his wide-ranging responsibilities in managing key aspects of Haryana’s governance and financial planning.
Anil Vij, a prominent MLA from Ambala Cantt, was given the energy and transport portfolios. Vij had previously handled the home department under the tenure of former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Along with energy and transport, he will also oversee the labour department, marking a notable shift in his areas of influence within the cabinet.
Arti Singh Rao has been given the health portfolio and will also manage medical education, research, and the Ayush departments. These responsibilities are crucial as the state continues to focus on improving its healthcare system and medical infrastructure. Rao’s appointment to this role signals a continuation of Haryana’s commitment to boosting the health sector.
Rao Narbir Singh was assigned the industries, commerce, environment, forests, and wildlife departments. His role is particularly important in balancing the state’s industrial growth with environmental conservation efforts. Singh's extensive experience is expected to help Haryana foster sustainable development while protecting its natural resources.
Mahipal Dhanda will oversee the school education department, focusing on enhancing the state's educational infrastructure. Education remains a priority for Haryana, and Dhanda’s appointment to this role reflects the government’s emphasis on providing quality education to students across the state.
Vipul Goel has been assigned key portfolios, including revenue, disaster management, urban local bodies, and civil aviation. His experience in managing revenue streams and handling disaster management will play a vital role in ensuring the state's preparedness for natural calamities and urban development projects. Goel’s portfolio also includes civil aviation, an area crucial for boosting connectivity and economic growth in Haryana.
Arvind Sharma will manage jails and cooperation, focusing on prison reforms and ensuring a smooth coordination between various departments. His role in handling the jail system is aimed at improving security and rehabilitation processes for inmates.
Agriculture, a key sector in Haryana, will be overseen by Shyam Singh Rana, who has been tasked with handling the agriculture and farmers' welfare department. With Haryana being an agricultural hub, Rana's role will be vital in ensuring the welfare of farmers and the agricultural sector's continued growth.
Ranbir Gangwa will handle the public health engineering department, which is responsible for managing water supply and sanitation. His role is essential for ensuring that Haryana’s citizens have access to clean drinking water and effective sanitation systems.
Krishan Kumar Bedi has been given the social justice, empowerment, and SCs/BCs welfare portfolios. These departments focus on uplifting marginalised communities and ensuring social equality within the state.
Shruti Choudhry will manage the women and child development department, focusing on policies and initiatives aimed at empowering women and improving child welfare programs across the state. Her appointment is seen as a step towards strengthening gender equality and providing better opportunities for women and children in Haryana.
The 54-year-old Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana at a grand ceremony in Panchkula, which was attended by several NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and thousands of people from across the state. Alongside Saini, 13 MLAs, including two women, took the oath to join the new cabinet.
