Sonia Aggarwal, the vice-chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW), was arrested by the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on charges of accepting a bribe to settle a marital dispute.
Aggarwal has denied the allegations, claiming she is being framed. Her driver and personal assistant, Kulbir Beniwal, who is accused of taking the bribe on her behalf, was also arrested.
The ACB announced Aggarwal's arrest late on Saturday through a post on its official 'X' handle. The ACB also revealed that they caught Kulbir red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 1,00,000.
According to ACB sources, the dispute involved Anil Kumar, a junior basic training (JBT) teacher from Julana in Jind, and his wife, a police constable stationed in Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar.
The couple had a domestic issue, and on Thursday, Aggarwal held a counselling session for them in Sonipat.
Two days later, the teacher filed a complaint with the ACB, claiming that during the session, Kulbir demanded Rs 1 lakh from him to settle the dispute. The ACB set up a trap, and Kulbir was caught in Hansi while accepting the bribe.
Afterward, the ACB team went to Aggarwal’s house in Pratap Colony, Kharkhoda, Sonipat. Since she was not at home, the team called her in, and she was detained and taken to the government rest house in Kharkhoda.
