Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently living in exile in India, gave a roadmap to her party leaders and workers in Bangladesh and instructed them to gather information about the wealth generated over the last six months by Mohammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government. And his advisors and others who are currently involved in national affairs.
In a phone conference with her party functionaries on Sunday, Hasina also directed to gather data regarding the wealth of the relatives of those running the show in Bangladesh since her ouster last August. She also warned her party workers against taking any “risk” right away.
Sources in the central Intelligence Bureau (IB), which is monitoring Hasina’s every communication since she arrived in India, said the Awami League supremo gave directives on how to carry out political activities during the present hostile situation in Bangladesh and draw attention of common people about the wrongdoings of the government.
“We created a 7,57,000 crore taka budget on June 30 last year. The nation has gone bankrupt in six months. The functionaries of the present government are on a looting spree. The purpose of Yunus' ascent to power is not to govern the nation. Instead, he took power to plunder the nation. Because of his avarice for power, Bangladesh is currently on fire,” said Hasina while addressing his party leaders.
Taking a jibe at Yunus, Hasina said, “He has failed miserably. Running a nation is not the same as lending money to the poor and charging them exorbitant rate of interest. It is obvious that Yunus saheb wants to embezzle public funds and assets. Gather information about wealth generated by Yunus, his advisors and their relatives in past six months. Highlight the data and facts before the common people.”
Hasina also accused Yunus of plundering Bangladesh Gramin Bank, a microcredit finance organisation he founded.
The former Prime Minister urged her party leaders to stand in solidarity with the common people of the country. “It makes no difference where I reside now. Bangladesh will always hold a place in my heart. You do not need to take risk right away. However, stand by the impoverished. Provide them with food, blankets and other necessities for survival. Take care of our minority fellow citizens,” she said.
Hasina claimed that she and her sister were to be killed during the July uprising. “They attempted the same thing on August 15, 1975, but were unable to do so as we were overseas. Every time my party workers saved my life,” she added in her message.
Referring to the interim government’s decision to reform the Constitution, Hasina said, “How dare they touch our Constitution? We achieved freedom in return for the lives of lakhs of martyrs. Many criticised our constitution but nobody dared to do away with the Constitution.”
In her address, Hasina added: “Bangladesh was being recognised as a developing nation on a global scale. We were expanding in every area. But the interim government destroyed everything. Poor people are collecting food from dustbins, something that never happened in our regime. Awami League will save Bangladesh from the robbers.”
