Hindu and Sikh refugees from Pakistan and Afghanistan gathered for a protest near the Congress headquarters today, voicing their grievances against statements made by leaders of the INDIA opposition bloc regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
The demonstrators, carrying placards and chanting slogans, directed their ire towards Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for their stance on the CAA.
Panju Ram, a participant in the protest, expressed frustration, questioning the opposition's resistance to the implementation of the CAA. "When the BJP-led Centre is taking steps to grant us citizenship through the CAA, why are other political parties opposing it?" he questioned. "We are protesting against them for their opposition to the law."
This demonstration follows a similar protest staged by Hindu and Sikh refugees near Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Civil Lines residence on Thursday. During that protest, they demanded an apology from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader for his remarks against the CAA's implementation.
The refugees urged Kejriwal to retract his statements opposing the CAA and extend an apology for his remarks concerning refugees and the legislation.
