Several museums in Delhi received bomb threats on Wednesday, sparking immediate action by the Delhi police. According to officials, the threats, which were sent via email, targeted between 10 to 15 museums, including the Railway Museum.
As soon as the information was received, police teams rushed to the locations to investigate the matter. They conducted thorough checks to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Upon investigation, it was found that the bomb threats were hoaxes, with no explosives found at any of the sites.
The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the hoax. The authorities are taking the matter seriously, given the disruption and fear caused by such threats.
This incident is part of a worrying trend of hoax bomb threats in Delhi. Recently, various institutions in the national capital, including schools, colleges, hospitals, and airports, have been targeted with similar threats. In May, two colleges at Delhi University and over 100 schools in the Delhi-NCR region received hoax bomb threats.
In response to these incidents, the High Court has sought a detailed status report from the Delhi government regarding the hoax bomb threat emails in private schools. On May 17, the Delhi Police submitted a status report to the High Court, detailing the measures taken to address these threats.
The report stated that five bomb disposal squads (BDS) and 18 bomb detection teams (BDTs) have been deployed across the city, including at the IGI airport, railway stations, and metro stations.
The police report also highlighted the distribution of schools across different ranges in Delhi: 1,764 schools fall under the Central Range, 1,032 in the Eastern Range, 1,762 in the Western Range, and 76 in the New Delhi Range.
The recurrence of these hoax threats has put a strain on the city’s security resources and caused significant anxiety among residents. The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
The police are committed to ensuring the safety of all institutions and are working tirelessly to track down the perpetrators behind these hoaxes. They have emphasised that making such false threats is a serious crime and those found guilty will face severe consequences.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police are confident that they will soon apprehend those responsible for these disruptive and dangerous acts. In the meantime, the city remains on high alert, with enhanced security measures in place to prevent any potential threats.
