Security forces killed Bagu Khan, also known as Samandar Chacha and described as the “human GPS” of terror, in an encounter in Gurez on Saturday, ending his decades-long role in facilitating infiltration attempts across the Line of Control.
Khan, who had been based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir since 1995, was one of the oldest and most prolific handlers of infiltration. He was shot dead along with another terrorist while attempting to infiltrate through the Nowshera Naar area, officials said.
According to sources in the security grid, Khan was instrumental in organising more than 100 infiltration attempts from different points in the Gurez sector.
Many of these attempts were successful, owing to his detailed knowledge of the treacherous terrain and hidden routes in the region. His expertise made him a key figure for multiple terror groups.

Although he served as a Hizbul commander, Khan extended his assistance to several other organisations, helping them plan and carry out infiltrations from Gurez and neighbouring sectors.
After years of evading security forces, his efforts came to an end during the latest infiltration attempt. Officials said his death marks a significant setback to the logistical network supporting terror groups in the region.
The operation followed closely on the heels of another encounter in the same sector. On Thursday, two terrorists were killed by the Indian Army while trying to infiltrate across the Line of Control in Bandipora district.
The latest clash occurred near Naushehra Naar under Operation Naushera Nar IV, where troops engaged a group of heavily armed infiltrators. A brief gunfight broke out, leading to the elimination of two militants.
