A 28-year-old student from Hyderabad, Pole Chandrashekar, was fatally shot during a robbery while working part-time at a gas station in Denton, Texas, on Friday. Chandrashekar, originally from L.B. Nagar, had moved to the United States to pursue a Master’s in Data Analytics at the University of North Texas, Dallas.

Prior to his studies, he completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and gained professional experience as a Senior Data Analyst at GEICO and as a Data Analyst at American Express in Chennai.

The incident has raised alarms within the Indian community, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of international students in the United States. This tragic event adds to a series of incidents involving Indian students in the US, including the recent murder of Chandra Mouli Nagamallaiah, a hotelier from Bengaluru, who was killed in a stabbing and beheading incident in Dallas in September 2025.

Former Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao visited Chandrashekar's family and expressed grief over the incident. He tweeted, “It is tragic that Chandra Shekhar Pole, a Dalit student from Nagar who completed BDS and went to America (Dallas) for higher studies, died in a shooting carried out by miscreants early morning. We, on behalf of BRS, demand that the Telangana government take initiative and make efforts to bring Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains to his hometown as quickly as possible.”

Chandrashekar's death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, friends, and the student community in both Hyderabad and Dallas. Authorities are coordinating the repatriation of his body to Hyderabad.
