Immediate steps are being taken to minimise disruption to train services during the winter fog season, with the Ministry of Railways directing multiple zones and divisions to conduct real-time stock checks and ensure punctual operations.
According to official instructions, the General Managers of Northern Railway, North Eastern Railway and North Central Railway have been asked to carry out real-time assessments of train operations and promptly address issues, including those related to onboard catering.
Divisional Railway Managers of Delhi, Lucknow, Banaras, Prayagraj and Moradabad have also been directed to take real-time stock of trains under their jurisdiction and resolve any operational concerns without delay.
To support on-time departures, spare rakes have been arranged for premium services such as Vande Bharat and Shatabdi trains. A 20-car Vande Bharat rake is currently being deployed to ensure punctual operation of the New Delhi-Varanasi services.

Another 20-car rake, available with Northern Railway as a maintenance spare, is being utilised to facilitate the timely start of Vande Bharat services between Varanasi and New Delhi. Additionally, a 20-car Vande Bharat rake earlier earmarked for augmenting a 16-car service is being transferred from West Central Railway to Northern Railway to support operations.
On East Central Railway and Southern Railway, two AC rakes are being formed using available coaches to ensure on-time departures of late-running trains.
Arrangements for catering and onboard housekeeping for spare rakes are being coordinated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
To strengthen monitoring, train movements are being overseen directly by the Railway Board through dedicated war rooms, enabling real-time intervention to address operational and catering-related issues, the ministry said.
