To develop equipment for space and cyber warfare, India is already taking policy initiatives, said the country’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, on Friday. The CDS was speaking at the East Tech symposium in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The General then also spoke on India’s indigenisation journey in the defence sector, saying that ‘it might be late’ but ‘we are on the right track’.
The strategic selection of weapons is paramount, for which the research and development (R&D) needs to be reviewed to meet modern requirements, a top Indian Armed Forces official cited.
"There is a need to expand the defence manufacturing base, and artificial intelligence and other modern techniques have to be explored," he said, adding that although the indigenisation of defence manufacturing started late in India, the country is on the right track.
General said that the objectives of the Centre's Act East policy and self-reliance in defence can be realised through the active participation of states such as Jharkhand and West Bengal. He asserted, "War is science and an art. A warrior needs to be creative and innovative in the present context."
