The second edition of the India, Australia, Indonesia Trilateral Maritime Security Workshop (TMSW) wrapped up after fruitful discussions on regional maritime security challenges and collaboration opportunities.

 

Held from May 15 to 17 at INS Dronacharya, Kochi, India, the workshop delved into the theme "Indian Ocean Region: Collaborative Efforts to Enhance Regional Maritime Security," aiming to address ongoing challenges and foster cooperation among the three maritime neighbours.

 

Under the auspices of Headquarters Southern Naval Command, the workshop saw active participation from delegates representing the three navies.

 

 

RAdm Nirbhay Bapna, ACNS (FCI), helmed the proceedings, with Cmde Paul O’Grady from the Royal Australian Navy, FAdm Heri Triwibowo from TNI (AL), and Cmde Manmeet S Khurana from the Indian Navy co-chairing.

 

Discussions during the workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics, including Information Exchange mechanisms, Maritime Domain Awareness, illicit maritime activities, Maritime Law enforcement, capability enhancement, and capacity building.

 

Emphasis was also placed on avenues for enhancing interoperability and cooperation among the participating navies.

 

Guest speakers RAdm Upal Kundu, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Southern Naval Command, and RAdm Susheel Menon, Flag Officer Sea Training, shared insights during the workshop.

 

Additionally, delegates from the Australian and Indonesian Navies had the opportunity to visit Indian Naval training facilities at Kochi and M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited.

 

The workshop served as a platform for constructive dialogue and exchange of ideas, facilitating a deeper understanding of shared maritime security challenges and the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing them.

 

Through such initiatives, the participating countries aim to strengthen regional security architecture and promote stability in the Indian Ocean Region.
