India-Bahrain to deepen ties during Jaishankar's visit

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and held wide-ranging discussions on further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Sharing details of the meeting in a post on X, Jaishankar thanked the Bahraini leadership for ensuring the welfare and well-being of the Indian community living in the Gulf nation.


External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday met Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and held wide-ranging discussions on further strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.


Sharing details of the meeting in a post on X, Jaishankar thanked the Bahraini leadership for ensuring the welfare and well-being of the Indian community living in the Gulf nation. He said the two leaders also reviewed the bilateral relationship and exchanged views on the evolving regional situation.


"Discussed deepening our bilateral cooperation. Exchanged views on ongoing developments in the region," Jaishankar said in his post. The meeting comes as part of the External Affairs Minister's multi-nation diplomatic tour aimed at reinforcing India's engagement with key partners in the Gulf region and beyond.


Earlier on Sunday, Jaishankar met Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, in Doha, where the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explored fresh opportunities to further strengthen the India-Qatar Strategic Partnership.


Describing the interaction as "a pleasure" in a post on X, Jaishankar expressed gratitude to the Qatari leadership for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian diaspora residing in the country.

He said the discussions covered a broad range of issues, including cooperation in energy, trade, investments, connectivity, security and people-to-people exchanges. "A pleasure to meet Qatar PM & FM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani in Doha today. Thanked him for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community. Reviewed various facets of our bilateral cooperation especially energy, trade, investments, connectivity, security and people-to-people ties. Explored new opportunities for deepening our Strategic Partnership," Jaishankar said.


The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had announced on Saturday that Jaishankar is undertaking a multi-nation visit covering Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, the United States and Belgium. According to the MEA, the External Affairs Minister will visit Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman from July 5 to July 10, during which he is scheduled to hold meetings with his counterparts and the top leadership of the four countries.


The ministry said the visit is aimed at further enhancing India's bilateral relations with the Gulf nations while also providing an opportunity to exchange views on regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.


Following the Gulf tour, Jaishankar will travel to the United States, where he will launch India's official campaign for its candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-29 term during a visit to New York on July 13.


He will then travel to Brussels, where he is scheduled to participate in the third India-European Union Trade and Technology Council meeting on July 14 and 15. During the visit, Jaishankar will also hold discussions with his counterparts from the European Union and Belgium to further strengthen India's strategic and economic engagement with Europe.
