India has strengthened its position as the third-largest home to billionaires in the world, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025.
The country now boasts 284 billionaires, adding 13 new names to the prestigious list this year. Despite a decline in wealth, Mukesh Ambani remains the richest person in Asia, surpassing Gautam Adani.
Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, retained his position as India’s wealthiest individual with a net worth of ₹8.6 trillion. However, his fortune saw a decline of ₹1 trillion compared to the previous year. Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group, witnessed a 13% surge in his wealth, reaching ₹8.4 trillion.
The combined wealth of Indian billionaires now stands at ₹98 trillion, roughly one-third of India’s GDP and more than Saudi Arabia’s entire economy. Among the 284 billionaires, 175 saw their fortunes grow, while 109 experienced either a decline or no change.
Mumbai Remains India’s Billionaire Hub
Mumbai continues to be India’s billionaire capital, with 90 individuals on the list. However, it lost its position as Asia’s billionaire hub to Shanghai, which now has 92 billionaires.
Beijing follows closely behind with 91. Mumbai added 11 new billionaires this year, surpassing London, which gained seven, and Beijing, which gained eight.

The top ten richest individuals in India include a mix of industrialists, pharmaceutical giants, and tech leaders. Five of them are based in Mumbai, with others spread across New Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, and Ahmedabad.

The average wealth of Indian billionaires is ₹34,514 crore, surpassing China’s average of ₹29,027 crore. The average age of India’s billionaires is 68 years, two years higher than the global average.
Shashank Kumar and Harshil Mathur, co-founders of fintech company Razorpay, are the youngest Indian billionaires at 34 years old, each with a net worth of ₹8,643 crore. Globally, the youngest billionaire is Wang Zelong from China, aged 29, with a similar net worth.
Women also hold a strong presence in India’s billionaire club, with 22 names on the list, collectively holding ₹9 trillion in wealth.

India vs. Global Billionaire Rankings
India’s billionaire count continues to rise, but it remains far behind the United States and China.
Despite this, India added 45 new billionaires this year, showcasing steady growth. In terms of wealth expansion, 130 Indian billionaires saw an increase, compared to 285 in China and 544 in the US.
The combined wealth of Indian billionaires grew by 10 pc year-on-year, higher than China’s 9 pc but significantly lower than the US, where billionaires saw a 27 pc surge in wealth.
