Fifty-three years after its liberation from Pakistan, the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) will make its inaugural appearance in Indian skies.
The landmark event will occur during the multi-nation military exercise, Tarang Shakti (Power of Waves), slated for later this month.
The exercise will unfold in two phases: the first from August 6 to 14 at the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Sulur air base in Tamil Nadu, and the second from August 29 to September 14 at the Jodhpur air base in Rajasthan, near the Pakistan border.
Air Marshal AP Singh, vice-chief of the IAF, announced at a press conference in New Delhi that invitations were extended to 51 countries for the largest international air exercise hosted by India.
Confirmations have been received from 10 countries participating with their assets and 18 countries sending observers.
BAF warplanes will join IAF aircraft and those from other nations in the second phase of the wargames at Jodhpur.
The Jodhpur base is notable for housing the squadron of the homegrown Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, the only attack helicopter globally capable of operating above 5,000 meters.
The exercise aims to enhance military cooperation and includes not only aerial maneuvers but also ground training and cultural exchanges among air warriors from different countries.
Additionally, participants will engage in defense exhibitions and visit firms integral to India’s military sector.
Tarang Shakti represents a significant step in international military collaboration, providing a platform for shared learning and strategic partnerships.
The inclusion of the BAF marks a historic moment, reflecting the evolving defense ties between India and Bangladesh.
