India alerts citizens on clashes near Thailand-Cambodia border.

The Embassy of India in Cambodia has issued a travel advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid travelling to the border areas, following clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border that have triggered a humanitarian crisis in the region.

In an official message released on Saturday, the Embassy stated, “In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas.”

The advisory also provided emergency contact details, requesting Indian citizens in need of assistance to reach out to the Embassy of India, Phnom Penh at +855 92881676 or via email at cons.phnompenh@mea.gov.in.

This advisory follows a similar warning issued by the Indian Embassy in Thailand on Friday. That Mission advised Indian travellers to avoid visiting seven provinces near the Thailand-Cambodia border where the situation remains tense.

Indian nationals were also asked to follow updates from Thai official sources, including TAT Newsroom, the official online newsroom of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

The border clashes have resulted in a large-scale humanitarian emergency, with CNN reporting that more than one lakh people have been forced to flee their homes within just two days of conflict.

The long-running territorial dispute between the two Southeast Asian nations dates back over a century to the period when France occupied Cambodia until 1953. Cambodia maintains that a French-drawn map supports its claims, but Thailand rejects the map’s accuracy.

Local media reports from both countries said that Cambodia and Thailand have written to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in the wake of two days of cross-border fighting. The 15-member UN body has called for an emergency meeting on Saturday to address the escalating tensions.
