India's Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, headed a top-level delegation to Madagascar between 25 and 27 June to represent the nation during celebrations to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the island nation's Independence as well as the establishment of its Armed Forces.
In his official visit, Seth also had a bilateral meeting with Madagascar's Minister of Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin. The two leaders discussed how to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation, especially in maritime security and capacity building.
Seth also made a courtesy call on Prime Minister Christian Ntsay and expressed greetings on behalf of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 65th Independence Day of Madagascar. India and Madagascar, Indian Ocean neighbours and fellow developing countries, have shared long-standing relations based on mutual respect and cooperation.
The Indian MoS' visit underlined our commitment to our Indian Ocean partners under the vision of MAHASAGAR i.e Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. India reiterated its role as a reliable development partner to Madagascar and reaffirmed its support for the country's progress and stability.
Seth also attended an Indian Embassy-organized community event at Antananarivo, where he spoke to members of the Indian community. While receiving the community at a reception, he updated the community on India's unfolding economic revolution and recent developments under Prime Minister Modi.
