The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan, Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai and Major General Kashif Chaudhry, are set to hold critical talks today at 12 pm. The discussions, aimed at fortifying the recently declared ceasefire, come amid heightened tensions following a series of cross-border attacks.
The May 10 agreement to cease all military action across land, air, and sea was reached after the Pakistan DGMO called his Indian counterpart, leading to an official announcement just hours later. This followed four days of intense hostilities, including drone and missile strikes that had raised fears of further escalation.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, during a press conference, confirmed the timing of today’s talks, emphasising the need for both sides to adhere to the ceasefire understanding.

"The armed forces are maintaining a strong vigil on the situation. They have been given instructions to deal strongly with any instances of repetition of the violations along the International Border as well as the Line of Control," Misri said.
The escalation began after Indian forces launched precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. Pakistan retaliated with attempts to strike military installations and civilian areas, further straining bilateral relations.
Today’s DGMO-level talks are seen as a critical step towards stabilising the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border, as both sides seek to restore normalcy and prevent further military escalations.
