India recorded 119 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with the number of active cases rising to 7,264 and 11 more deaths reported, taking the nationwide death toll since January 2025 to 108, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated on Sunday.
According to the ministry’s latest bulletin, Kerala remains the worst-hit state, contributing 87 of the new cases. It also reported seven of the eleven fatalities, including deaths linked to Covid-related pneumonia, respiratory failure, and sepsis. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Rajasthan also recorded new cases, while 13 states and Union Territories registered no fresh infections in the past 24 hours.
The cumulative number of recoveries since January stands at 13,604, including 689 discharged on Sunday alone. Covid-19 data from West Bengal is still awaited.
The newly reported fatalities include:
- An 83-year-old man in Kerala with pneumonia and Covid-19 sepsis.
- A 33-year-old man with acute pancreatitis and respiratory failure.
- A 60-year-old with sepsis, a 63-year-old woman with septic shock, and a 71-year-old woman with acute leukaemia.
- An 85-year-old man with leptospirosis and pneumonia.
- A 67-year-old woman with Covid-19 pneumonia.
- One death each was reported from:
- Delhi: A 67-year-old man with lung cancer died of acute respiratory failure.
- Chhattisgarh: An 85-year-old with chronic respiratory failure.
- Madhya Pradesh: A 52-year-old woman with asthma and newly diagnosed diabetes.
- Maharashtra: A 47-year-old man with liver cirrhosis.
Kerala has now recorded the highest number of Covid-19 deaths this year at 35, followed by Maharashtra (28), Delhi (12), Karnataka (11), and Tamil Nadu (7).
In response to the uptick, the central government has launched mock drills across hospitals nationwide to assess preparedness. These drills are aimed at evaluating oxygen supply systems, ventilator availability, and stocks of essential medicines to counter potential spikes in cases.
