India started their Pink Ladies Cup 2025 campaign with a confident 2-0 win against Jordan on Thursday.
The match saw an impressive performance from the Indian side under the guidance of head coach Crispin Chettri.
Midfielder Naorem Priyangka Devi gave India the lead in the first half with a long-range strike in the 23rd minute.
Her shot caught Jordan’s goalkeeper off guard, putting India ahead early in the game.
India had a chance to extend their lead soon after, but Manisha missed from close range.
Jordan tried to create opportunities in the second half, but India's defence, led by captain Ngangbam Sweety Devi and young defender Purnima Kumari, remained solid against the pressure.
India doubled their advantage in the 54th minute when Manisha capitalised on a counterattack and found the back of the net with a well-placed shot at the near post. This goal gave the team further control over the game.
A significant moment in the match came when Lisham Babina Devi made her international debut, coming on as a substitute.
Meanwhile, Karishma Shirvoikar played an important role in attack, nearly assisting Priyangka for another goal, but Jordan’s defence managed to clear the danger in time.
Goalkeeper Shreya Hooda ensured that India maintained a clean sheet with a crucial save in injury time.
She denied Jordan’s Lana Feras, whose header from close range was stopped brilliantly.
With this win, India made a strong start in the tournament, displaying an impressive mix of attacking play and defensive resilience.
The team will look to carry this momentum into their next matches as they aim for further success in the Pink Ladies Cup 2025.
