Peru receives 2,50,000 saline units in India aid package.

In a gesture of solidarity with its Global South partners, India on Wednesday dispatched 32 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Peru, including 250,000 units of physiological saline solution to help patients suffering from dehydration in the South American nation.

“Caring for each other as Global South partners — India dispatches 32 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to Peru. A consignment of 250,000 units of physiological saline solution will support patients suffering from dehydration in Peru,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X.

India’s ties with Peru have traditionally been cordial and cooperative, covering a wide range of sectors including health and pharmaceuticals, energy and mining, textiles and agriculture, science and technology, defence, space, and culture.

The two countries also maintain close coordination on multilateral platforms, according to the MEA.

This is not the first time India has extended medical support to Peru. In 2023, New Delhi handed over 1,000 vials of Human Immunoglobulin to the Peruvian Health Ministry following an increase in cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome.

India has consistently provided humanitarian aid to its partners in the Global South. Alongside the latest assistance to Peru, New Delhi also sent a consignment of 300,000 doses of Measles and Rubella vaccines, along with ancillary supplies, to Bolivia to help contain an outbreak of the disease.

“India dispatched a consignment of 300,000 doses of Measles and Rubella vaccines along with ancillary supplies to support Bolivia in managing the outbreak of the disease. India stands by its friends in the Global South,” the MEA said in another post on X.

Bolivian President Luis Alberto Arce Catacora expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Government, describing the vaccine donation as a gesture of solidarity and timely support amid the country’s growing health emergency.
