India will observe a one-day state mourning on Tuesday as a gesture of tribute to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash, announced the Union Home Ministry.
In honour of the late Iranian president, the national flag will be lowered to half-mast on all buildings across India where it is regularly hoisted.
Additionally, there will be a cessation of official entertainment activities during the period of state mourning.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, as reported by Iran state media, when the helicopter carrying President Raisi, the country's foreign minister Hossein Amit-Abdollahian, and other officials crashed in a foggy, mountainous area in Iran's northwest region.
Confirming the demise of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amit-Abdollahian in the helicopter crash, a spokesperson for the Union Home Ministry expressed condolences and announced the decision for a day of state mourning on May 21 throughout India.
"On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly, and there will be no official entertainment on the day," the spokesperson stated.
