India will be participating in the 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSoCD), set to take place in New York from February 10 to 14, 2025. The Indian delegation will be led by Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The session will provide a platform for discussions on social policies, inclusion, and resilience, with a focus on strengthening global solidarity and social cohesion.
The Commission for Social Development plays a crucial role in shaping global policies aimed at social well-being. This year’s session will bring together representatives from various nations to address emerging challenges and explore strategies to build more inclusive societies.
India’s participation reflects its commitment to advancing social policies and contributing to international discussions on social development.
During the event, Savitri Thakur will deliver India’s statement at the Ministerial Forum on the priority theme, “Strengthening Solidarity and Social Cohesion.”
The Indian delegation will also actively engage in discussions on pressing issues, including policies to enhance social resilience amid growing global challenges.
Additionally, they will take part in deliberations on Universal Rights-Based Social Protection Systems, highlighting India’s initiatives aimed at ensuring comprehensive social security and welfare.
The discussions at the session are expected to strengthen global cooperation in tackling social vulnerabilities and promoting social inclusion. India aims to share its experiences in implementing social welfare initiatives while also learning from global best practices.
The country has consistently worked towards creating a robust social framework that prioritises the needs of marginalised and vulnerable communities.
A key focus of the session is the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the Programme of Action of the World Summit for Social Development. These commitments align with the broader objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The discussions will help reinforce international partnerships and facilitate the exchange of knowledge on effective social policies.
Ahead of the session, the Chair of the 63rd Commission for Social Development conducted an informal briefing on January 9, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
This briefing served as a platform for delegates and stakeholders to gain insights into the session’s priorities and preparations. It reaffirmed the importance of strengthening social cohesion, inclusion, and solidarity in achieving sustainable development goals.
